Disease progression in patients with various types of carcinomas, including lung cancer, is dependent on an intricate interaction among the tumor, host inflammatory response, and nutritional status. There is substantial evidence that the systemic inflammatory response and nutritional status of patients with carcinomas are important predictors of the outcome.
