
Daniel Wendt, MD, PhD, FECTS

Dr. Wendt graduated at the Essen University and received his medical degree from the Essen medical school. He completed his Cardiac Surgery Residency at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Prof. Dr. Heinz Jakob). In 2013, Dr. Wendt became Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery and in 2016 he became Vice-Chairman of the Department.
In 2016, Dr. Wendt also became board-examined of the European Board of Cardio-Thoracic surgeon. Moreover, he also acts as a Guest-Professor for biomedical engineering at the Duisburg University. Dr. Wendt is member of the Editorial Board of the “Annals of Thoracic surgery”, of the “Journal of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases”, of the “Romanian Journal Cardiovascular Surgery” and for “Minimal-invasive Therapies and allied Technologies”, where he also acts as a member of the steering committee of the Society of Medical Innovation and Technology. In addition, he is member of more than 10 international societies.
Dr. Wendts´ research focuses mainly on operative techniques to treat coronary artery disease, in-vitro biodynamical evaluation of heart-valves and minimal-invasive concepts to treat structural valvular heart diseases (TAVI, mitral, aortic), moreover he works on new treatment options and technique s aortic surgery. He has been the Principal Investigator or Co-PI on over 20 funded grants. He has published over 100 papers and has written many book chapters.
