Dr. Abbas is a board certified thoracic surgeon with interest in robotic and endoscopic lung and esophageal surgery.
Dr. Abbas did his General Surgery residency in North Shore –LIJ system in New York and completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He joined University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2004 and stayed on faculty for 9 years. He joined West Virginia University Medicine as chief of the Thoracic Surgery in 2017. He serves as the surgical director of the Thoracic Oncology for WVU Cancer Institute and is an Associate Professor in department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery. He also holds the position of the Associate Program Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Abbas is the author of various publications, book chapters and is actively involved in clinical research. He has been an invited speaker on robotic lung and esophageal surgery in many international meetings and recently selected to be the Co-chair of the “Thoracic Surgery Expert Group” of Society of Robotic Surgery.
Dr. Abbas holds positions on several international, national, and local committees in the hospital.
