Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, The University of Melbourne, Australia
Stuart Mazzone, PhD is a Professor in Neuroscience, Head of Respiratory Sensory Neuroscience and the current Deputy Head (Research) of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is a current serving member of the Australian and American cough guidelines expert panels and consults for various pharma on their antitussive programs.
His current research focuses on the anatomy, physiology and pharmacology of the neural pathways regulating airway defensive reflexes and, more recently, how immune mechanisms alter airway neural function. He is well known in the field for his work in animals and humans describing the brain processing of sensory-related information arising from the airways and defining how this information is integrated into the neural circuits involved in the autonomic regulation of airway smooth muscle tone and the cough reflex.
He is an associate editor of Frontiers in Physiology, Frontiers in Neuroscience and European Respiratory Journal Open and has published over 120 original articles and reviews.
