Expert’s brief introduction
Christopher W. Seder:
Prof. Seder is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He then spent 3 years completing his cardiothoracic surgery training at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota. Prof. Seder’s interests include all aspects of benign and malignant lung, mediastinal, chest wall, and esophageal disease. Prof. Seder’s academic interests include investigating blood-based tumor markers to identify lung cancers at the earliest stage, international collaboration with the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons registry, and resident education.

The 25th Meeting of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons was held in the Innsbruck, Austria during 28 May – 31 May 2017. It’s my great honor to interview Prof. Christopher W. Seder (Figure 1) after he gave a talk on “Cooperation with the STS database: where do we go next?” (Figure 2).
Interview questions
- As we know that the STS database, especially the general thoracic surgery database is world-famous, what impressed you most when you cooperated with STS database?
- As an authoritative database, how does STS database benefit the clinical doctors?
- Although China is a developing country, there are a large number of thoracic surgical patients. In your opinion, is it possible for China to join the STS database?
