A paradigm shift in the treatment of mild asthma?
Abstract
Mild asthma, often termed mild intermittent and mild persistent asthma, is defined by the Global Initiative in Asthma (GINA) management strategy as patients who meet the criteria for step 1 and step 2 treatment strategies. Although these patients have fewer symptoms, they are the main and largest subgroup of asthma patients. Epidemiological data shows that mild asthma accounts for 70% of the total population of asthma patients, and a large proportion of them are newly diagnosed (1).
