The development of uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in São Paulo: from diagnosis to lobectomy
Regarding the terms quoted in our article (1) on the development of the “snake” instrument, we would like to correct the stated text.
We were addressed by a surgical materials company in China and also in Brazil to give feedback, suggestions and modifications on an instrument for video assisted surgeries. After two months of feedback, we received a prototype, still unpolished.
Later in 2015, we received a final instrument, better turned and finished, which the company itself called “snake” for us.
I was informed by Dr. Diego G. Rivas that the instrument for minimally invasive surgery was developed by the group of the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, and that some malicious companies had looked for some surgeons who visited Shanghai. After having become aware of this, it is only fair to credit the right development: the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, since we are not sure of the reliability of the company that sought us and also gave opinions to improve material that was not even belong this company, probably trying to copy the other device.
So I want to make it clear that the instrument called “snake” was developed by the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, because it would be neither correct nor fair to mention them in the article. Congratulations to the Shanghai group for the development of the real instrument “snake”, always trying to do good with medicine.
We regret the errors.
