Aspirin before coronary artery surgery

William M. Whited, Erin M. Schumer, Mark S. Slaughter

Abstract

Myles and colleagues recently reported in the New England Journal of Medicine the results from their Aspirin and Tranexamic Acid for Coronary Artery Surgery (ATACAS) study (1). This was a multicenter trial evaluating the effects of aspirin in patients undergoing coronary surgery. This study found no difference in the rates of bleeding complications or thromboembolic events, which contradict previous studies (2,3).
