Masters of Minimal Invasive Thoracic Surgery: a rewarding platform for thoracic surgeons' continued education

The “Masters of Minimal Invasive Thoracic Surgery” program, endorsed by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and co-sponsored by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, will be held in Waldorf Astoria Orlando, Orlando, Florida on September 19-21, 2013. The course director is Thomas A. D’Amico, Professor and Vice Chair of Surgery, Chief of Section of General Thoracic Surgery and Program Director of Thoracic Surgery, from Duke University Medical Center.

JTD special column in International Journal of Pathology and Clinical Medicine

Since July 1, 2013, Journal of Thoracic Disease have cooperated with International Journal of Pathology and Clinical Medicine (www.gjbl.net, a well-recognized core journal in China) to launch the “JTD special column” in International Journal of Pathology and Clinical Medicine, where excellent articles selected from JTD will be translated into Chinese and published to reach a galaxy of Chinese physicians and researchers at home and abroad. The National Lung Cancer Gene Library Alliance of China was launched

The National Lung Cancer Gene Library Alliance of China was launched on 12th Oct. 2012 in Guangzhou, as initiated by State Key Laboratory of pulmonary diseases, the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and BGI Genomeic Research Institution. More than 20 3A-hospitals from all over China joined in this alliance as the first members (Figure).

The global respiratory initiatives founded by the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) were created in 1992 in collaboration with Drs. Claude Lenfant, Director of NHLBI, Suzanne Hurd, Director of the Division of Lung Diseases, NHLBI, and Nikolai Khaltaev of the Non-communicable Diseases Branch of WHO; Lawrence Grouse, MD, PhD was the Coordinator and Executive Director of these initiatives.

National training program on standardized diagnosis and treatment of primary lung cancer

On December 6, 2011, a meeting for national training program on standardized diagnosis and treatment of primary lung cancer was held in Beijing by Ministry of Public Health, the People’s Republic of China. This meeting, in line with the demands of health care reform in China, was a substantial step towards improving the current clinical practice in lung cancer management in China.
