Misha D.P. Luyer, MD, PhD, FEB-OG

Misha D.P. Luyer is an Upper GI surgeon at Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where he has been practicing since 2012. He completed his medical training at Radboud University Nijmegen and earned his PhD cum laude from Maastricht University Medical Center+ (MUMC+). Following his surgical training and postdoctoral work he specialized in Upper GI and minimally invasive surgery.

Prof. Luyer is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery in Esophagus, Cardia, and Stomach Surgery (FEB-OG) and serves as a proctor for minimally invasive upper GI surgery across Europe. In 2023, he was appointed Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, with a focus on surgical innovation.

He is chair of the Department of Surgery at the Catharina Hospital and leads several national committees, including the Dutch Upper GI Cancer Audit. His research is supported by national and international grants (e.g., NWO, ZonMw, KWF, EAISI). Prof. Luyer has published extensively on surgical oncology, nutrition, and perioperative care and serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals
